How to make an OHP

MAKING AN OHP

• Use a programme like WORD to create your page
• PLAN first
• Think how you will teach using this OHP – you may want to add labels as you go along.
• If you write on it, use a WASHABLE pen

Important DESIGN Tips

• The OHP is burned with BLACK ink.
Don’t use pictures that rely on colour unless you are going to use a coloured koki on it
• Pictures need to be clear – use line drawings rather than photos
• Make sure there is a difference in SIZE between headings and text
• Leaving space to write answers works well

Tips for using WORD

INSERT OBJECTS

• Objects are any types of text, pictures, etc, that are not letters or numbers
• Wordprocessing programmes are not designed to work with objects
• It treats all objects as TEXT
• To make the objects stay in the place you want them you have to “tell” the programme that they are not letters

Click on the object – a DRAWING TOOLS menu will open
• Select TEXT WRAPPING
• Choose THROUGH
• Now you can move the
object anywhere you want it

Word Art

 On the INSERT Menu, select WORD ART
 Choose a colour and style
 You can edit the text and change the angle by double clicking on the box
 If it is not at the top of the page, use the TEXT WRAP option

Text Boxes

Text boxes mean you can use any part of the page without having to stick to straight lines
 On the INSERT Menu, select TEXT BOX
 Click and drag a text box where you want it
 Write in the box and format the text as normal

Auto Shapes

• These allow you to add any sort of shapes – smiley faces, arrows, call outs, etc.
• Click and Drag to the place
you want it
• You can format Auto shapes – right click and then you can change colours, etc

Pictures

• Use simple pictures or they will be too blurry
• There is very little CLIPART on most modern computers
• You can find good clipart on Google Images
• On Google Images type in the picture you want – add Clipart or Line drawing if you like
• When you have found a picture, click on it
• You need to save the picture in as high a definition as possible – check it is FULL SIZE
Save your picture or copy
• Insert it into your document and WRAP TEXT so that it  doesn’t move your other objects and text

How to make the OHP

• Print the final OHP on paper
• On a PHOTOCOPIER, burn the OHP onto a HEAT QUALITY transparency

  1. Good luck to everyone making their OHP's for next week! How did it go for those of you who did them this week? Did any of you 'melt' any photocopy machines? :)
